Privacy Policy

What we collect

Nothing. Handload does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information or usage data. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party tracking SDKs. We operate no servers and receive nothing from the app — not even the weather lookup described below, which goes directly from your device to the weather service and never to us.

What the app stores (on your device only)

The reloading information you choose to enter — firearms, load recipes, component inventory, loading batches, range sessions, velocities, group sizes, photos and videos — is stored locally in a database on your device. It is never uploaded.

Device permissions and why they're used

All of the following are processed entirely on your device:

• Camera & Microphone — to record range videos and photograph targets for the group-size measurement tool.
• Photo Library — to pick a target photo to measure, and to save range videos you export.
• Bluetooth — to connect to a chronograph (for example the FX Pocket Pro) and read shot velocities locally over a direct link.
• Files / Storage — to import chronograph CSV files and to create or restore your own backup files, all initiated by you.
• Motion — on iPhone only, to read the built-in barometer when you tap the sensor icon beside the pressure field. The reading is used on the spot and never leaves your device.
• Location (approximate) — used only for the optional weather lookup described below. Handload asks for approximate location, never precise, and only at the moment you tap Fetch.

The weather lookup — the one thing that leaves your device

A range session records temperature, pressure and humidity. Rather than making you type them, Handload can look them up. This is the only outbound request the app makes, and it happens only when you tap Fetch. Nothing is sent in the background, on launch, or on a schedule.

When you do tap it:

• Your position is rounded to about two kilometres before it is sent. The weather model resolves to roughly 25 km, so this loses no accuracy at all — it simply means the request cannot identify which range, or which house, you were at.
• The rounded coordinates go to MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, api.met.no), whose data is published under CC BY 4.0. Nothing else is sent: no identifier, no session contents, no account, and nothing about your firearms, loads or velocities.
• MET Norway may retain ordinary web server logs. See their terms.
• The conditions that come back are written into that session and kept on your device, like anything else you typed.

If you never tap Fetch, Handload never contacts anything, and no location permission is ever requested.

Sharing

Data leaves your device only when you explicitly export or share it — for example, saving a CSV, creating a backup file, or sharing a range video through the system share sheet. Where that data goes is then determined by the app or service you choose to share with.

Two optional actions hand information to another app on your device when you tap them: the range-card hand-off passes that load's bullet details and muzzle velocity to the FieldSolve ballistics app, and the FX Chronographs link opens in your browser. Neither happens on its own, and neither sends anything to us.

Children

Handload is a general-audience tool intended for adult hobbyist reloaders. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
